For the 8th consecutive year, Universal Biotech, a contract service organization in the health care sector launches its call for The Innovation Prize. This prize awards young start-ups (<8 years old) and academic research groups developing innovative projects in the field of Life Sciences (biotechnology, diagnostics, m/e-health applications, medical technology products and services).
Since its launch, this competition has benefited or benefit from the support of private companies (AstraZeneca, Clevexel Pharma, GSK, Ipsen, LFB, L’Oréal, Mayoly Spindler, Merck, Myriad, Pierre Fabre, Servier) and from the contribution of members of renowned academic/public institutions (European Commission, Karolinska institutet, National Research Agency, Pasteur Institute). The Innovation Prize has become a reference in stimulating innovation in the biomedical field worldwide.
In 2015, this cutting-edge competition welcomed nearly 300 applications from 34 countries. Laureates Procyrion (USA) and Pixium Vision (France) were rewarded each with a prize including cash and consulting services provided by Universal Biotech. Among the 26 startups which have reached the final step of competition, 60% of them then raised funds or performed partnerships with private pharmaceutical companies, supporting the high-quality selection conducted by our jury.
The call for projects is opened from February 3rd till April 30th, 2016. Through our adapted ‘Open Innovation’ web platform, participants will be able to easily submit their projects by filling an application providing information on the 5 following selection criteria:
– Scientific quality of the innovation,
– Team quality,
– Intellectual Property strategy,
– Project feasibility,
– Chances of success on the market.
After 3 rounds of selection managed by our international board of jury experts, the awards ceremony will take place during the Innovation Days 2016, the only recurrent Life Sciences event in Paris combining high-quality conferences and business convention, on October the 3rd & 4th at the Maison de la Chimie. For this edition, the topics will be Open Innovation, Strategic Alliances & Investments, Digital Transformation of Health, and Market Access.
